School has been in-person for all Banneker students since August, and the seniors are planning their year in hopes of having engaging activities.
Because of Covid-19, seniors did not get to experience the second half of their sophomore year and their junior year in school. Many are hoping that although 2021-22 looked bleak in the beginning, later it will be filled with events.
Spirit Week was held at the end of October, but Winter Ball is canceled. Instead, a week of winter activities is planned.
Prom, an event in late spring or early summer for seniors only to dress elegantly in theme and celebrate their accomplishments, has come up in question.
Seniors like Ryan Young believe that whether prom happens “depends on Principal Berger.” Young also said that “the class president and SGA president can advocate for us, but it all comes down to her decision.”
Some seniors like Laila Pettus have been advocating for activities like senior sunrise where students are on individual blankets watching the sunrise before school to accommodate Covid-19 guidelines and help seniors that don’t feel connected in their senior year.
